Be careful what you wish for, voters

I hear people saying all the time that this is a democracy. Where do you get this information? This country was founded under a republic. Look in the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution or any state constitution, and you will find nothing about a democracy.

I would like to say I don't care if you are a Democrat or a Republican -- you better look real closely at all the presidential candidates. We are losing our rights day by day.

Someone said more than 100 years ago that a government that is powerful enough to give you everything you want is a government powerful enough to take everything you have.

Stan Scritchfield, Augusta

The writer is correct. This

The writer is correct. This country was started as a Republic. T Our problem is that we have gotten away from that. Read up on the difference. Recite the Pledge of Allegiance..........."and for the Republic for which it stands".............

Thank you, Mr. Scritchfield!

Thank you, Mr. Scritchfield! Even the GOP leaders continuously speak of "our democracy"! Someone has said that a democracy lasts only until the voters find out they can vote themselves free handouts. Looks like we've found it out!

Grouse, you're an idiot. A)

Grouse, you're an idiot. A) jack did not say that Iraq attacked us; he said, "_especially_ when attacked" prefaced by "when necessary." B) If even your precious liberal dems acknowledge that Hussein was making payments to those who were doing things like blowing up the Cole, does that no constituted an "attack"? C) If even your precious liberal dems acknowledge (also) that Hussein was providing training and assistance to al Qaida, does that not count?

Grouse, FYI..Iraq attacked us

Grouse, FYI..Iraq attacked us plenty. Try damn near every time we patrolled the no fly zones. No..that's not why we invaded them, but it would have been a good enough reason for me.
