hello????
A first appearance hearing was held for a 69-year-old Thomson woman charged in the Wednesday night shooting death of her elderly husband.
Helen Irene Ansley was formerly charged with murder in connection with the killing of Fred Ansley, 77, at the couple's 826 White Oak Road home, shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Ansley reportedly was shot once in the chest by a .22-caliber handgun, according to McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall.
Results of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Mr. Ansley's death and how many times he was shot were still pending Thursday night.
Mrs. Ansley appeared before McDuffie County Chief Magistrate Judge Bryant Swan during the brief hearing held at the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center. Several of Mr. Ansley's family and friends attended - amid tight security by deputies with the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department.
Judge Swan let Mrs. Ansley know he could not set a bond in the case, noting that such a matter could only be done by a Superior Court judge because of the nature of the charge against her.
During the hearing, Judge Swan appointed Toombs Judicial Circuit Public Defender Harold Wallace to represent Mrs. Ansley in the trial process.
Mr. Wallace is expected to meet with Mrs. Ansley in the next couple of days. It will then be up to him and his client whether they will seek a request from a Superior Court judge for bond in the case, according to Durwood "Woody" Davis, who serves as chief assistant district attorney of the Toombs Judicial Circuit.
Mrs. Ansley, who acknowledged having only a ninth grade education, said she understood her rights as explained to her by the judge.
Memorial services for Mr. Ansley are to be held in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel in Thomson at 2 p.m. on Saturday, a family member said.
hello????
So, did she even have some kind of excuse as to why she said she shot her husband or did she do it out of pure hatefulness. Either way, if she were 100 years old or 33 years old, she was old enough to know better and she should spend the rest of her days looking at 4 walls, and a steal cell.
Judge not least you be judged. Maybe he had abused her for the last time! We have no idea what went on in that situation. Maybe it was selfdefense. Let's hear the whole story and let the judge and jury be the decision makers.
I watched the news this morning and her son was being interviewed. He said "He (the husband) drove her to do it" I don't know what that means but with little to go on I don't think we should post things like "may she burn in hell" that's a little harsh. Just pray for the family and hope the truth comes out.
My prayers go out to the families of this tragedy. Let the courts decide if Mrs Ansley is guilty or not.
