I think you can still legally shoot a dog on your property if you see it as a threat. What I find humorous are the hundreds of cat owners I see walking their cat on a leash-yet to have seen one.
When a dog digs a hole under my fence, and trespasses onto my property, and gets caught in my dog trap, and animal control presses charges, and the judge rules in favor of the dog's owners, then what good are the leash laws?

What exactly is a "dog trap" and why would you have one in your backyard? I doubt the dog was aware it was trespassing when it entered your yard, and instead of treating the dog cruelly, perhaps it would have been wiser to take up the issue with the humans involved.
Ms. Brown. If you catch the dog in a trap, wouldn't it be smarter to quietly dispose of the dog rather than subject yourself to the legal system?
A well placed round does wonders for the nusiance pet population, and is the ultimate spay and neuter program!!!
Sounds like she might have a she dog that the male is sniffing out. That will casue a male dog to clmb, dig, or even bite you to get to them. Have them spayed. That will put an end to the problem.
Well you can't ask the dog--"what are you doing trespassing on my land" now can you? If it were a pit bull, you better believe I would have shot and killed it and then asked questions. Some people have kids that play in their back yards, and no animal has the right to dig to get to them no matter what. Some dogs are trained to attack people, other animals or trespassers. I have dogs, but there are laws that a judge must abide by which in this case, he failed to keep the law.
ok folks, how about holding the owners liable on these accounts?? i understand the danger of some of these animals, but as stated, most of them do not even realize they are trespassing. also, if this is a first for an animal, do you really feel it is fair to dispose of them quietly? i would just as soon call animal control; at least this is the most humane avenue.
if the owners really care, they will seek the animal out.
