Well said Well said Mr. Seaha. Could not have put it any clearer than what you have stated.
Grady Abrams has an interesting take on who to elect to the White House in November 2008 ("Candidates in presidential race gives voters chance to make history," Jan. 20).
It's clear that making history by electing a black or female to the presidency is of far more importance to Mr. Abrams than electing a president who will keep America safe and prosperous.
America needs a president who will continue to keep us safe from terrorism, and close our borders to illegal immigrants who are currently draining our social services. We need a president who will keep our economy strong and on-course, and who will prevent Congress from wasting taxpayer dollars on pork barrel projects and failed entitlements. We need a president who will not create new entitlements, but will insist that all Americans stand on their own feet, take responsibility for their actions and make good, sound financial decisions. We need a president who will take government out of our lives, not force us to accept more government in our lives.
America is ready to elect a black or female president. I also believe that Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are not the right choices for America. Both are committed to injecting more government into our lives.
In the end, the November election will not be about history, stigmas, race or gender. It will be about socialism vs. capitalism, more government vs. less government, and accepting responsibility or delegating it to government. In short, the election in November will determine the direction America takes for decades to come.

Sorry...too many logical fallacies...can't and won't name them all, but positing arguments that pit one party at the end of one spectrum and the other at the opposite end (Hobson's choice) is seen through by 1st year philosophy students or just common sense, middle of the road folk. You can't paint Obama in an extreme corner. His presidency will began to restore America's greatness around the world, excellerate the healing of our racial wounds and refocus our country's efforts domestically. You are right about one thing: this election will determine our direction for decades to come...could this be the beginning of the next Dem domination for 40+ years? I sure hope so...
DrGunby I hope you enjoy writing checks to the IRS!
Not to worry. Neither Barack nor Hillary are electable. It is all a ruse designed to imitate democracy.
Good God Gunby perhaps you should drop the doctor moniker. You don't believe that the corrupt Dem (a longer history of corruption than the Rep regime)party will actually improve the situation-talk about a logical fallacy. If anything both parties have proven their incompetence.
DrGunby, your post proves the cliche ..."none are so blind as those that will not see". Your prejudice leaves little room for improvement.
Gunby, my spouse just read your comment and said, "so...he's voting for the Black man, right?"
Dr Grunby has hit the nail on the head. It's so interesting reading this AC because it attracts all the fringe elements that have been dominating the right-wing of the republican party the last 25 years. It must be frustrating that your own politicians are abandoning you like rats on a sinking ship. The most telling fact of all is that all of your debates, everyday, are about the Democratic candidates. Even you folks are excited about them and the hope they contain for the future of our country, and bringing us back from 8 years of failure. Nice to hear your spouse refers to people by their race rather than their name. Leopard can't hide those spots.
Gunby says you cannot paint Obama into an extreme corner. That's because he's already standing at the tip of the left wing.
Hey, let's debate McCain, Romney, Guliani and Huckabee!!!! I hear McCain has promised us more war and economic failure. I guess that's what keeps him atop the republican field. Oh no, Rush has said McCain and Huckabee will be a disaster, therefore Romney is making his move. Nevermind, now I see why you only want to debate the Democratic candidates!
LOL..yes Shivas...that was in fact on McCain's commercials...More War and Economic Failure..I'm John McCain and I approved this message. Funny stuff but far from accurate. FYI we fought other countries under Bill Clinton and the economic downturn started under Bill. It wasn't all peace and love and money falling from the skies and kittens for everybody. Again it was a funny post but a little short of accurate.
It's not about gender and race so much as POWER!. The worst addiction of them all.
I agree Dani. Maybe I just become irreversibly cynical about politics in this country, but I don't particularly like any candidate from either party. Why must we always choose from the "least worst" as opposed to the "best of the best"? Is it that those who are most qualified are also the least foolish, and those who are the least qualified are the most power hungry?
Obama, saw your picture with Ted Kennedy on the news, just remember to take your car and don't let him drive. I don't see Ted Kennedy's endorsement as being a plus for Obama!!
Probably an accurate assessment dani.I like to hope/think you're wrong and that some really want to make a difference and I'm sure that in some way they all do.B ut it would be foolish and naive to think power isn't a big factor.
Yep Bill Clinton had Operation Desert Fox and Operation Allied Force. He also signed a law demanding for regime change in Iraq-H.R.4655. Some people could argue that Bush enforced Clinton's law and that Congress declared war so there is no illegality in Iraq.
It is a big endorsement. The money people will now have no fear of donating to Obama, now that they know if things go poorly for him they can go to Big Ted for their political favors.
Beer and Bizarro, I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes. It will be necessary to pay for a 2T war. Also, I will not drop my title. I earned it. Aren't conservatives supposed to be proud of folk that improve their lives with their own effort? PT, I'm voting for the best candidate...he just happens to be black. And pofwe, if you think that Barack is unelectable, you are the blind person that PT called me. PT, sounds like name calling. What did I do to grate you today?
gunby...you are full of yourself and you are full of fertilizer...one man cannot restore america's greatness...in fact i would be ashamed to think the hopes of america hung on one person, especially obamba.
what this country needs is less journalistic iterference in the running of our affairs, less hollywood based idicocy that passes for political acumen, and more national unity, unity behind whoever is the leader.
it sickens me to see the president and leaders of our countery mocked and made fun of and dispareged by people who probably do not possess enough intelligence to balance their checkbook.
shivas you are a prime example of the rot that permeates the country....we have not had 8 yeaers of failure,if you think the past 8 years were such a cake walk, then why in hell don't you run for president?
my son is in iraq right this minute because of honor ,duty and a sense of accomplishment....for you to belittle his efforts and the efforts of his fellow military comrades as failure is pathetic....if left up to you and your ilk,we would likely be speaking germanese and praying three times a day to buddallah.
you have no clue about the sacrifices we are going to face,no clue.....
thunder, thx for your opinion...like elbows and, well, you know. You actually proved my point in your rant. We do need natl unity behind whoever the leader is. The next leader will be a democrat. Will you stand behind him or her? Thunder, I'm also proud of your son. I'm not proud of our president for sending him into a war of choice, but I'm proud of his service, duty, committment and honor.
Hey PT, why didn't your husband say that I'm voting for the white guy. Barack is half white after all...oh, that old racist govt policy of one drop of black blood...sorry...
DRGUNBy, that is the kind of B.S. PatriciaThomas is allowed to spread by her ILK. They are going to attack you not on principle but becaus P.T. did. But remember she is not a racist, you are just twisting her words. Come on KPC and JohnSmith pipe in as you usually do.
please playlikethunder2 will you guys give us a break with the john wayne melodies?your son is in the military, period! so was i, big deal! neither of us were drafted.when will you folks admit that going into iraq was a big mistake?when it's all over bush will be long gone,a coward on the run just like he has been his entire life.most of the wars this country engaged in could have been avoided.i won't buy your guilt trip.many soldiers over there are protecting those oil lines, and not much else.
hypo...you are wrong....#1 i'm not "attacking" gunby, i find his debatable points worth reading and thinking about...and#2, there are principles here, and dr. gunby has also pointed out a couple, namely that we are becoming too factioalized as a nation....we need to elect our leaders ,then realize once it is over it's time for all americans(not afro-amer.,not mex-amer.,not chino-amer.-but americans) to get with the program.if you have a better idea then go through channels, work for change ,but don't stand on the sidelines blowing hot air....we have enough of that.
and look, racism is never going away...it is simply a human character flaw.swallow that bitter pill, then get over it. the higher calling is ...we are all americans and we have trouble enough without the in fighting and factionalism that is destoying nations all over the planet....
It's amazing how the right-wing calls for us to get along and get over our differences when they see their power declining, but when they were riding high they used their power with an iron fist. Yeah, Coulter, Rush and Hannity are standing in line to get along
chalieyonce... truth being told...you are probably the coward, but you must live with that.
my son is in the service to protect whatever needs protecting, including your feather covered arse.
he did join, and you rest assured that the greatest military organization on this planet has been made up of volunteers since the revolutionary war, so you ignorant "draft" comment is just that...ignorant.
now...since you are apparently this nation's best kept secret...what would this country do without the oil you disdain? do you suggest,oh wise one, that we wait until our supply is in danger?
oh, and please tell us how we could have avoided what war?
i expect answer...you tell me how,in view of the deaths of 3000 plus americans we could avoid rooting out and destoying the enemies of our way of life, our democracy??? tell me ,dude...i'm all eyes and ears.
if anyone hasn't seen the e-mail entitled"these are my credentials", e-mail and ask for it.
it is 50 quotes about our military, paired with current photos from today's battlefield.
if it doesn't make you proud of oue military, then you are living in the wrong country.
btw...john wayne rocks!!!!!!!!!!
e-mail address is william.coffey@smdc-cs.army.mil
I suggest that several of you make sure that your spell check is working before you post a comment. Of course this race is about race - South Carolina's recent Democratic primary proved that. Oprah Winfrey has proved that. Electing Barak Obama so the presidency makes as much sense as allowing me to be the pilot on the largest commercial plane filled with passengers. Obama has absolutely NO experience as being the leader in any situation whatsoever. He has never operated a business, he only got into the senate TWO years ago and obviously hasn't even spent a lot of time doing THAT job over the past few months. He has proposed no recognizable piece of legislation - in other words on the job training is NOT a wise idea for the president of the United States. For month Hillary Clinton vowed and declared that she was not going to be a candidate for the presidency and she too has been absent more than present on Capitol Hill so her constituents too are getting short changed in Washington. First her "experience in the White House" was her theme and now it's her "35 years of experience" - at doing WHAT? Monica Lewinsky had experience in the oval office - does that qualify her?
I don't usually respond personally to comments her but Dr Gunby's asking if someone would be standing behind Barak Obama were he to be elected president should be passed back to all the Democrats who have done everything possible to sink our ship since George Bush has been president. Even in this campaign the candidates spend all their time bashing the president rather than presenting the HOW of accomplishing even one of their promises. NO president on his own can accomplish the things which they are promising. If Bill Clinton had spent more time putting deeds to his words we wouldn't even be IN this mess, we probably would never have suffered 9/11. To think that his wife and a complete rookie to any responsibility is total fantasy. I don't know what kind of doctorate you have or who gave it to you, but I wonder if it included any classes in government. If you believe that universal health care sponsored by the government is the answer just go to your nearest free clinic and see what kind of care you get. If you believe that paying higher taxes is going to result in more benefits think again. The more money we give congress the more wasteful congress has become.
All I have to say is Go Team Obama!!!!!!!
