An Aiken man died Sunday afternoon in a single-car wreck near Silver Bluff Road in Aiken County.
Larry Bruce Bowman, 57, died at Aiken Regional Medical Centers at 4:25 p.m., said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
The wreck happened at 2:10 p.m. when Mr. Bowman was traveling east on Roslyn Circle in a 1995 Chevy Caprice. The car left the road and struck a fence and then a tree, Mr. Carlton said.
Mr. Bowman was alone and not wearing a seat belt. A toxicology report is pending, the coroner said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's office are investigating, Mr. Carlton said.
Family is uninjured in mobile home fire
A family of four, including two toddlers, escaped injury Sunday afternoon when a fire destroyed their double-wide trailer and a detached shed.
Richmond County firefighters responded to the fire in the 1600 block of Karon Way in Hephzibah at about 3 p.m. after receiving calls about a trash fire that spread to the structure and the shed, Battalion Chief Chris Reid said.
Chief Reid said the fire got away from the owner.
Representatives of the American Red Cross went to the scene to assist the victims, Chief Reid said.
The fire was contained by 5:30 p.m., authorities said.
big news day?
A trash fire got away from the owner and burned down his house? That must have been some trash fire! And mighty close to the house.(obviously)
They probably didn't get a permit to burn, so they tried to hide that away from peering eyes, and got their house burnt down.

LOL..Monday's Chronicle...takes less than five min. to read...............
At least the good news of the day wasn't a person saved a lot of money my switching to Geico Insurance.
wow was there really no news or the writers had the day off?
The family whose trailer burnt down-sorry that this happened but you should have spent the money for trash pick up like the rest of us. Nobody wants to smell your trash being put up in smoke, and now you have no home. Hope your not expecting the CSRA to cover your mistake. We have a hard enough time covering all the food stamps, and welfare that people recieve that don't work, we sure don't need to take care of anymore.
In response to Evans, GA. Please tell me you don't work around humans! Your response to this family's tragic accident is down right inhumane. Yes they made a mistake but they are dealing with that mistake in the worse possible way. Thank God for people who help others in times like this cause if the world was full of people with the same attitude as you it would be a awful place.
I always find it amazing how the "perfect" people can criticize and put down those who admittedly make mistakes. I happen to know those people who were living in the mobile home that burned, have known the family my whole life. They are good, honest, hard working people and they made a mistake. A mistake that cost them dearly. Now, this very young couple and their children have nothing. They walked out of their home with nothing but the clothes on their backs....They are suffering a great deal at this time and they do not need self righteous people such as you making comments like you just made for all to see. I pray to God that nothing horrible ever happens to you or those you love, because surely folks will remember your attitude toward these fine people.
EVERMORE1971...is there a place I can send some money to? I know these folks need some help.
Some people get great pleasure in criticizing others. It's because they are miserable people themselves and wish for everyone else to be just as unhappy as they are.
Dear Sanders20,
I know they would appreciate any and all help at this time; however, to my knowledge there has been no account or the like set up to assist them. Being that I cannot post their personal information on this site, I would suggest perhaps calling the Red Cross or Richmond County Fire Dept. to inquire as to ways that you can help this family if it is your wish to do so. Thank you on behalf of their family for your concern and well wishes.
