Store worker is killed during armed robbery
ROSWELL --- Authorities say a 39-year-old woman is dead after an apparent robbery at a Roswell grocery store.
Police say three men entered the Azteca Grocery Store late Saturday and held three female employees at gunpoint while demanding money.
Police say Lidia Alvarado was shot in the chest and later died at North Fulton Regional Hospital.
Police say a shopper was also robbed and kicked.
No arrests have been made.
Boyfriend is accused in stabbing death
COLUMBUS --- Columbus police are investigating a domestic argument that turned deadly.
Lt. Lynn Joiner said 23-year-old Hillary Shirah was stabbed to death after getting into a fight with her live-in boyfriend, Jeremy Benjamin Johnson. Police have named the 30-year-old man as a suspect.
Police say Mr. Johnson is being treated at The Medical Center for self-inflicted wounds after he cut himself with the same knife he allegedly used to stab Ms. Shirah.
Her death is the second reported homicide for the city this year.
Deputies reprimanded for threatening crowd
MACON --- Two Bibb County sheriff's deputies are being reprimanded for threatening attendees who gathered last week to hear former President Clinton campaign for his wife.
With crowds of people lining up inside Mercer University's atrium Jan. 21 and hundreds more outside, the fire marshal said no one else could go in, Chief Deputy David Davis said.
Almost 2,000 people packed inside the small intramural gym of the University Center, with about 1,600 folding chairs arranged on the floor. Only about 1,100 people had registered to attend.
Two motorcycle officers working the event, Mark Schultz and Mike Thomas, were then told to tell people waiting outside in the cold that they wouldn't be allowed in, Deputy Davis said.
"They were a little discourteous," Deputy Davis said.
He said one of the deputies said something to the effect of "they had five minutes to leave or they would be tased."
