AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Virginia Mims Dorn of Dorn Drive in Augusta died on Friday, January 25, 2008 following several months of declining health. She was 91 years old. Mrs. Dorn was the widow of Mr. James Louis Dorn, her husband of more than 47 years, who died in 1991. The family will receive friends on Sunday, today, January 27, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, 706-798-8886. The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, January 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Red Oak Grove Baptist Church, Modoc, South Carolina. Mrs. Dorn's body will lie in state at the church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Daniel Ishee and Michael Via will officiate. Committal services will follow in the church cemetery with Dr. Jonathan Reimer officiating. Her grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Dorn is survived by her three daughters, Gail Dorn Tyndale and her husband, Marty, of Columbia, Sandra Dorn Ishee and her husband, Daniel, of Augusta, and Rebecca Dorn Via and her husband, Michael, of Augusta; her son, James Louis Dorn Jr. of Augusta; her brothers, Miller Mims, David Mims, and Virgil Mims; her grandchildren; Matthew Tyndale, Scott Tyndale, Jennifer Tyndale Padgett, Timothy Via, Elizabeth Via Corbitt, Leah Via, Luke Ishee, Rebecca Gail Ishee; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Henry Mims Sr. and Nellie Elizabeth Ray Mims; her sisters, Mary Mims (Corley) Davis and Lucy Mims McKeller; her brothers, Fred Mims, Watson Mims, Robert Mims, and John Mims. Mrs. Dorn was a member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church in Modoc, South Carolina. She had been a member of Grace Chapel in Augusta where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a supporter of several missionary organizations and ministries. Mrs. Dorn enjoyed camping and was a member of both the Rambling Rockers and Good Sams Camping Club. An avid gardener, she loved growing both vegetables and flowers. She was well known for her homemade chow-chow. Mrs. Dorn was lovingly known as "GiGi" to many family members and friends.
