Man charged with murder in shooting

ANDERSON --- A 21-year-old Belton man has been charged with murder in the killing of his roommate.

Authorities say Ralph Vosburgh III shot Berry Ashley, 54, several times Thursday evening in the home they had shared for several months.

Police say Mr. Vosburgh left the home, then called 911 and was arrested about an hour after the shooting.

Belton Police Chief David Dockins would not discuss a motive.

He said it was the first fatal shooting in Belton in two decades.

Chinese company to set up in Spartanburg

COLUMBIA --- A China-based company that makes packaging materials and cylinders for textile rolls says it will open a new facility in Spartanburg, bringing 120 new jobs within the first five years.

Officials with American Yuncheng Plate Making said Friday that the facility will be the company's first in North America.

It will make engraved cylinders used to transfer prints on to packaging, decorations and textiles.

Company spokesman Irene Qiao says the company chose South Carolina because of its low tax rates and access to key markets.

American Yuncheng Plate Making plans to invest $10 million in the next five years.

Charges dropped in sewer sabotage case

COLUMBIA --- Prosecutors have dropped criminal charges filed against Kershaw County's administrator and public utilities director during an investigation into possible sabotage of the county's sewer system.

Administrator Bobby Boland was charged with filing a false police report, which is a felony, and public utilities director Russell Wright was charged with providing false information, a misdemeanor.

Prosecutors say they determined Mr. Boland had no intent to commit a crime and found no evidence of wrongdoing against Mr. Wright.

Authorities have said the charges stemmed from an investigation into why several of the county's sewer-pump stations overflowed.

Forklift overturns, killing plant worker

LAURENS --- A worker at a Laurens plant has died after a forklift overturned on him.

Authorities say 51-year-old Allen Mosley was driving a forklift when it got stuck in the mud Thursday afternoon outside a plant operated by auto part maker Kimura.

The coroner's office says other workers were trying to use a second forklift to free the stuck machine when it overturned on Mr. Mosley, killing him instantly.

The state Department of Labor is investigating.
