Kadashia Ingram uses the basketball court to channel her aggressive instincts.
"I play post. I like the intensity; you have to be aggressive in the post," said Ingram, a senior at Midland Valley High School.
Ingram is one of the team's top scorers, usually getting from 15 to 20 points a game, according to her coach, Sarah Harvey.
"She's also a big rebounder and defensive player," Harvey added.
Ingram started playing basketball in elementary school.
"There's a lot about it I like, but mostly I like to do something to help my team," she said.
Ingram also plays volleyball and runs track for Midland Valley.
She started playing volleyball in eighth grade. Kills are her favorite part of the game.
"I like being able to smack the ball at somebody," she said.
When spiking the ball, "you are up over everybody," she said.
Ingram's jumping ability gives her an edge in basketball and volleyball. In the spring there's a track event in which that ability, and her speed, come into full focus.
Ingram competes in the 100-and 400-meter hurdles and the long jump. As a sophomore, she made it to the state championship in the 100-meter hurdles, and last year she won the event at the region level.
Ingram said she's planning to go to state this year.
She has been competing in hurdles since she was in eighth grade."I fell in love with it," she said.
Ingram has also competed at the Junior Olympic level in track, winning in the hurdles at the state level last summer.
Ingram said track is her favorite sport. Although some colleges have been interested in her basketball skills, she plans to run track and not play basketball in college.
She hasn't decided on a college yet, but she plans to attend one that will help her fulfill her goal of obtaining a biomedical engineering degree.
