AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Richard C. Drenten, of Augusta, died on January 17, 2008 at his home. He was 79 years old. Mr. Drenten was the husband of Marilyn Stratton Drenten. Mr. Drenten was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hephzibah First Baptist Church, 2527 State Hwy 88, Hephzibah 30815, 706-592-6983. Flowers should be sent directly to the church. A committal service will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Along with his wife, Marilyn Drenten, he is survived by his sons, Michael Drenten and his wife, Dale, of Gilbert, South Carolina, Patrick Riley and his wife, Sandra, of Perth, Australia; daughters, Shavone Flagg and her husband, Alan, of Katy, Texas, Linda Daniels Fortner and her husband, David, of Littleton, Colorado, and Colleen Riley and her husband, Mitchell, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Parmelee and her husband, Ray, of Findley, Ohio and Evelyn Nichols of California; his brother, John Drenten and his wife, Polly, of Phoenix, Ariz.: brother-in-law, Charles Jesiek of Middleton, Michigan; a sister-in- law, Shari Jewell of Grand Rapids, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Drenten was a 1948 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1956 as an engineer. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. Locally, he retired as an engineer from Leco.
