One-by-one Augusta State University students stepped onto the stage and hoped for a chance to become ASU's Idol. And one-by-one the judges determined their fate.

Watch the video to see some of the singers that advanced in the competition, and some that didn't pass the judges scrutiny.

The singing contest is loosely based on the popular FOX TV show "American Idol."

Later this month ASU students will vote online for their favorites.

On February 1, the top four contestants will compete live in the second annual "Search for ASU's Idol" competition.
