EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Virginia Foster Payne, 91, of Evans, passed away January 14, 2008. A native of Fillmore, Missouri, she resided for many years in Worthington, Ohio, Key Biscayne, Florida and Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was predeceased by her college sweetheart, her husband, Leigh W. Payne. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas and from Columbia Christian College, Columbia, Missouri. Virginia was an accomplished pianist. She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon and Pi Kappa Lambda, Music Honoraries and taught music for thirty years in Ohio. She will be missed by her daughters, Dr. Susan Porterfield and Virginia "Ginger" Thomas; grandchildren, Dr. James Porterfield (April), Amy Hattaway (Dr. Wayne), Warren Thomas (JoAnna) and Heather Williams (Brandon); and great-grandchildren, Lauren Porterfield, Leigh Porterfield, Canon Porterfield, Caden Porterfield, Nathalie Thomas, Josie Thomas, Tyler Hattaway, Will Hattaway and Payton Williams. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Rev. Prescott E. Nead, III officiating.
