AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Kay Howell, of Old Tobacco Road in Augusta, died on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at her home. Kay was the widow of Mr. Joseph E. Howell. The family received friends on Monday, January 14, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, 706-798-8886. On Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 1:00 p.m., a celebration of Kay's life will be held at Southgate Baptist Church. Committal services will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Her body will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from noon until 1:00 p.m. Pastor Joel Hawkins will officiate. Kay is survived by her daughter, Brenda Ennis of Appling; her sons, Emory Howell and Anthony Howell, both of Augusta; her grandchildren, Michael Howell, Melissa Grant, Tammy Howell, Larry Ennis, Jody Ennis, Alan Rogers, and Amy Claus; her sister, Doris Chalker; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Billy Chalker; twelve great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and close friends. Along with her husband, Joseph Howell, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Rogers and her son, Larry Howell. Pallbearers are Mike Tucker, Leroy Story, Thomas Aldred, Matt Gay, Kevin Hymas, and Charlie Ennis. Kay was a charter member of Southgate Baptist Church. She retired from Sears after 43 years. Kay's life touched all those around her. She profoundly impacted the life of her grandchildren - insisting that they always be the best person they could be. Her loving personality came from the inside out. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Southgate Baptist Church, 2226 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta 30906.
