A logistics and transportation company is taking over a former bakery warehouse on Doug Barnard Parkway.
Jacobson Cos. will create 10 to 15 jobs in Augusta, the Development Authority of Richmond County reported Monday.
Jacobson's 100,000-square-foot facility is the former President's Bakery Building located at the corner of Marvin Griffin Road and Doug Barnard Parkway.
The development authority's executive director, Walter Sprouse, said Jacobson will invest $3 million in its logistics center.
Jacobson operates more than 25 million square feet of warehouse space in more than 140 facilities across the United States. It has more than 6,000 employees.
"Jacobson Cos. are recognized nationwide as providing some of the best logistics and transportation services to their customers. We are proud that Jacobson chose Augusta for their Southeastern facility, and we are equally proud to bring such an outstanding and professional company to our business community," said Loren Perry, the development authority chairman.
Mr. Sprouse said Jacobson is targeting Feb. 1 to start its Augusta operation. It is leasing the building, he said.
"They do a lot of work with Kellogg's and Monsanto," Mr. Sprouse said. "Those are some of their big clients."
Jacobson started in 1968 in a Des Moines, Iowa, warehouse. It is now a conglomerate of seven companies encompassing transportation, warehousing, staffing and packaging.
