A boxing seminar for coaches, judges and referees will be held Saturday at North Augusta Boxing Club.

"Every two years, all officials have to attend a recertification clinic," said Jo-Anne Newman, one of the boxing club's founders and an internationally certified judge and referee. Her husband, Noah Newman, is a Level 3 coach, the highest designation in the United States.

The free seminar will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the club's new gym at 3294 Augusta Road, Burnettown.

"There will be sparring demonstrations, and they will be able to practice judging," she said.

Though the seminar will be beneficial to those already certified by the USA Boxing organization, it also can help people interested in becoming coaches, judges or referees, she said.

"We are hoping to get some new adult volunteers," Mrs. Newman said. She said there won't be separate sessions.

"We like to hold the coaches, judges and referees all together. Coaches need to know what judges and referees do," she said.

For information, call the club, (803) 593-1775.
