Spiritual recital

The faculty recital Spirituals: Black and White will take place at 8 p.m. Monday at Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre, Augusta State University, 2500 Walton Way.

The recital will feature mezzo-soprano Linda Banister, and pianist Rosalyn Floyd.

Admission is $5 for the general public and free for Augusta State students, faculty members and staffer with a valid JagCard.

School reception

Aiken County Public School District and Public Education Partners will hold a reception in honor of Dr. Elizabeth Everitt, the new school superintendent, from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at Schofield Middle School, 224 Kershaw Street, Aiken.

The reception is open to the public and will be catered by culinary art students from North Augusta High School, Aiken High, Midland Valley High and South Aiken High. The Schofield Middle School Strings will provide music.

Church concert

The CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon will present the Coast Guard Band in a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at First Baptist Church in Augusta.

Kicking in defense

Karate and self-defense classes are being held Monday and Thursday afternoons at Aiken County Recreation Center, 917 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville. Classes are $25 a month and are for ages 10 and up.

Arts for all ages

Art classes are being offered by the Aiken Center for the Arts, 122 Laurens St., Aiken. Classes are for all skill levels and ages. Youth programs include classes for home school students, after-school art classes and full day workshops on school holidays. Classes are available for ages 4 and older and costs range from $50 to $65.

Adult and teen classes include drawing, painting, pottery, basket weaving, clay, stained glass, and printmaking.

Weekly classes in bridge and yoga are being offered and range in price from $10 to $200.

Needlepoint club

The Aiken chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild Inc. will meet at 1 p.m. the second Thursday of each month in the Aiken Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St.

The meetings allow needleworkers to learn new skills on selected projects.

Broadway shows

Broadway at the Bell will feature Movin' Out at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7; David Copperfield at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Feb. 13; Ring of Fire at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28; Evita at 7:30 p.m. March 13; and Chicago at 8 p.m. April 18. Productions will be staged at Bell Auditorium, 712 Telfair St. Season tickets are $145 to $250.
