The faculty recital Spirituals: Black and White will take place at 8 p.m. Monday at Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre, Augusta State University, 2500 Walton Way.
The recital will feature mezzo-soprano Linda Banister, and pianist Rosalyn Floyd.

Aiken County Public School District and Public Education Partners will hold a reception in honor of Dr. Elizabeth Everitt, the new school superintendent, from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at Schofield Middle School, 224 Kershaw Street, Aiken.
The reception is open to the public and will be catered by culinary art students from North Augusta High School, Aiken High, Midland Valley High and South Aiken High. The Schofield Middle School Strings will provide music.

The CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon will present the Coast Guard Band in a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at First Baptist Church in Augusta.

Art classes are being offered by the Aiken Center for the Arts, 122 Laurens St., Aiken. Classes are for all skill levels and ages. Youth programs include classes for home school students, after-school art classes and full day workshops on school holidays. Classes are available for ages 4 and older and costs range from $50 to $65.
Adult and teen classes include drawing, painting, pottery, basket weaving, clay, stained glass, and printmaking.
Weekly classes in bridge and yoga are being offered and range in price from $10 to $200.
The Aiken chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild Inc. will meet at 1 p.m. the second Thursday of each month in the Aiken Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St.
The meetings allow needleworkers to learn new skills on selected projects.
