Although it's scheduled for two consecutive nights, John S. Davidson Fine Arts School's Dessert Theatre won't be the same show each time.
"It's almost two different programs," said Renee Toole, the school's fine arts department chairwoman. "That way we can spotlight more emerging artists."
The emerging artists segment of the program features student-created works that are approved by the fine arts faculty.
"As instructors, it shows us how our instruction is progressing," she said.
The programs will feature several types of dance, including tap/jazz, modern and ballet.
Kay Gross' Tap/Jazz 3 class will perform to the Eurhythmics' Sweet Dreams. "This is an intermediate/advanced class," she said. "They are right on the edge of breakthrough. It's an exciting group."
There will be selections from Seussical: The Musical, several improvisational pieces, skits and instrumental musical performances.
The two nights will also include pieces performed by students who are representing Richmond County in the semifinals of the Governors Honors Program. All the semifinalists will audition in Atlanta this month to be selected for the summer program.
"We have about 28 to 32 semifinalists from Davidson," said Ms. Toole.
Tickets to the shows are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, students and children and $6 for Davidson students for one night. Tickets for both nights are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, students and children and $8 for Davidson students.
"Some people like to come twice," Ms. Toole said.
