Classes will deal with adolescent transition

Going through puberty can be an awkward experience. To help ease the transition, Trinity Hospital will offer community classes to address the changes adolescents face.

On Jan. 26, the hospital will offer a Growing Boys class for ages 9-12. On Jan. 29 it will offer On Being a Girl, also for ages 9-12.

"Both classes will focus on the emotional and physical changes they face during adolescent years. Just being aware of the changes that will occur will prepare them to weather the transitional period more positively," said Kaye Kennamer, a community educator.

The classes tell parents and guardians how to talk about puberty with their child, she said.

"The parents are there with their child, and then you have an instructor to help facilitate the discussion," Ms. Kennamer said. "It opens ups the communication, and they can become comfortable talking about growing up."

Early registration is recommended because of space. People may register until the class is filled or until 4 p.m. the day of the class.
