David W. Hattaway has been named employee of the month for December at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.

Military honor

John J. Hayes , the chairman of the Criminal Justice Division of Georgia Military College, has been awarded The Military Order of the World Wars by the Augusta chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars.

Makes dean's list

Nina Vladimizova Blazheva , of Augusta, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester 2007 at Truett-McConnell College, Cleveland, Ga.

Essay contest winners

The following pupils were winners in The Augusta chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution's American History Essay Contest for 2007-08:

Maria Hernandez , National Hills Elementary, fifth grade; Monica Mohanty , C.T. Walker Magnet School, sixth grade; and Katlin R. Prosser , C.T. Walker, eighth grade.

Receives certification

Susan L. Bruce , a medical staff specialist for University Hospital, has received her certified professional credentialing specialist certification from the National Association of Medical Staff Services.

Gets college degree

Luis Leonardo Hernandez , of Augusta, has earned a bachelor of science degree in technology information management from Upper Iowa University, Fayette.

Qualify for Heisman

Nina Breakiron and Harrison Fisher , students at Westmnister Schools of Augusta, qualified for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Nina was chosen as one of the 10 finalists from Georgia.
