MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Ownby Varner entered in rest Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Doctor's Hospital. She was the wife of the late E.C. Varner, Sr. A memorial service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel with Rev. Bill Harrell and Rev. Barry Daniel officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday January 11, 2008 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Bennettsville, S.C. with Rev. Dean Parker officiating. Born in Columbia, S.C., she was a fifty year resident of Bennettsville, S.C. where she was an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church until moving to Martinez, Ga. in 1994 and attending Abilene Baptist Church. She was active in several Bennettsville area Garden Clubs and the Bennettsville chapter of the Eastern Star. Upon her move she remained active with the Martinez chapter of the Eastern Star earning her 50 year pin. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, E.C. Varner, Jr.; and her daughter, Wendy Lou Gail Varner. Survivors include her brother, Buddy Ownby of Magalia, Calif.; her son, Cam Varner and his wife Marsha; granddaughters, Brooke Varner Belair (Trevor) and Barbara Varner Pordash (Steve); and 4 great-grandchildren, Kayla and Hannah Pordash, Natalie and Brandon Belair.
