Will we cower, or stand up and fight?

  • Follow Letters

Still the Democratic candidates insist on pulling out our troops immediately after they win the election; insist on raising taxes; and insist on controlling every part of our lives.

What is it we seek as Americans? Do we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? If that is the case, why do we insist on governmental control of our lives? Are we so weak as individuals that we are unable to do what our forefathers did for themselves? Or are we so lazy that we would rather let someone else do things for us? Should we let the rest of the world do as it pleases until it affects our country, or do we protect ourselves from the coming onslaught by defeating those who promised to destroy us?

If ignorance is bliss, then we have become a very happy nation. Yet, when terrorists attack us again, should we say that it's our own fault, and dig deeper shelters? Are we going to apologize to those who kill us, and offer our children as a sacrifice to our murderers? Who will stand against the cowardice of our leaders who, like Neville Chamberlain, would give away the world to keep another Hitler from attacking us? It didn't work then.

Will we learn from history? Probably not, since the importance of history is no longer taught in schools. ...

Wrong, Clifford Henning. It is the Republicans who want to control every aspect of our lives. Look at what they have done since 1981. The Republicans have done absolutely nothing to help us out. But they always have helped those fat cats out. The list of rights the Republicans have taken away from us is too long to put in 1,200 words. In that same period, the Democrats have not taken a single right away from us. So if there is anybody who wants to control our lives, I would suggest to you, Clifford, to look in the mirror at your own Republican Party.

The Republicans have always given just lip service when it comes to making our government smaller. The Democrats don't talk about small government, yet they ALWAYS managed to shrink the size of our government every single time they are in the executive branch.

And it is very obvious that you, Clifford, have never studied up on US history. If you did, then you would not have written that asinine letter.

Well said, well said! The democrates will fiinish off this country if they are left to their own devices. Once again Clifford "Well Said"!

Clifford is certainly in the minority. The Republican leadership has managed a completely incompetent war for 4 years, and are now beating their chest because we are winning. There was never any doubt that we would prevail, but the fact that so many men lost their life because of the incompetence of the bureaucratic war planners is unforgiveable. A democratic leadership will bring integrity and credibility back to the USA.

That first paragraph came from the democratic candidates campaign promises!

Look at the first whine in response. The biggest complaint is that the nanny state hasn't done anything for us. What a typically uninformed comment of the left. YES, Mr Henning, many of this country want the "perceived" liberty and pursuit of happiness, as long as it is included in the "cradle to the grave" care of the nanny state. Radical socialism is the dream of some Americans and they're loud about it. Rugged individualism insults one entire party in this country and they're doing everything possible to destroy the foundation of America so it can be rebuilt on the foundation of "from each according to their ability to each according to their need". (Marx, 1848)

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." (JFK) How many democratics can repeat this quote without retching or laughing?

dani

I think you are all worrying about the wrong things.NOTE: !! IMO only we should be finding the best person to protect us from our enemies. we can deal with each other in this country, we always have. We fuss and fight but woe be unto an outsider who critizes us..."we are family". The radicals who want to change our way of life is my biggest concern. I want to stay on offense against these people. If we have to live in smaller homes and drive less expensive cars, so be it. Just keep the idiots from our door. Hillary, McCain, whoever..can only go so far as president . They will need our support.

NotyourDadsBuick

Dani, never lose your idealism, even when reality comes crashing down on you.

dani

Buick..That is my message. Be real, folks. Are you saying we should not stand up and fight? Ron Paul is the only candidate on the Republican ticket who believes it is okay to cower, and then I guess all the Democrats would cower. I haven't heard one say they wouldn't

LaTwon

i am glad u r a real patriot dani. what would you do if chinese troops were occupying your neighborhood? become a terrorist?
just which group in iraq was wishing death on you? i could take it better if we just admitted we are there to steal their oil and to tote israels water for them. did u see american gangster? who was smuggling the heroin into the country for the pushers? everything in this country is for sale to the highest bidder including military secrets. nuclear technology. read this.........who should the average american be angry at? who is the common americans enemy? and by the way ron paul gets the most donations from the active military.

FEAR FEAR AND MORE FEAR!!! Be very afraid the Democrats and Islamofascists are coming to take away your freedom and rule the WORLD! Resistance is Futile.

dani

I'll bet all the attacks during the Clinton administration and then the second attack on the WTC in 2001 were done by our friends. I got it now. I had been Mis-led.

otpor

Good Lord, really? I mean...really? Are we actually still in a DEBATE over whether or not this war is just? I realize the letter addresses (in a completely ignorant and uninformed manner) more than that, but this is just getting ridiculous. We invaded based on faulty intelligence; the ensuing racism and xenophobia paved the way for the Patriot Act (a misnomer if there ever was one), which tramples all over the Consitution; and we can't even find the one man who we think was responsible for the whole freakin' thing. Yeah, the GOP has done a wonderful job, haven't they?

dani

jlruthven,you are so funny.

imdstuf

Such ignorance is what keeps people like George W. Bush in power so he can provide big money contracts to his friends and family for munitions.

True republicans/convservatives are about state rights and smaller government, ala Ron Paul, but the party has changed and most still support it just because the name. If it was about state rights they would not be stopping California from setting their own environmental laws.

imdstuf

Oh, and people who write letters like this also need to read George Orwell's 1984...although I doubt they would doubt the meaning behind it.

dani

Are we meant to take George Orwell seriously? I thought it was meant to be fantasy.

otpor

Dani, we aren't meant to take Orwell seriously in a literal sense, either in 1984 or Animal Farm, which is a much better book IMO. The only difference, really, in his dystopia and our society is that the repression in the novel is much more upfront and blatant than it is here. So in answer to your question, those novels are a warning not through the specific elements or plot devices, but through the overall message; its called an allegory.

dani

Thanks for the education.

jack

willistownsc, how about specifying for us those rights YOU have lost because of us evil Republicans. I would really like to know as I have lost NONE of mine.

jack

PT it is "how many democrats", not "how many democratics" It is the Democratic Party made up of Democrats. Otherwise, you do a good job girl.

jack

LaTwon, if we are in Iraq for their oil, why are we paying $100 bucks a barrel for oil? You are full of it.

gagirl40

Unemployment at 5%, the Dow down 238.42 edging closer to 11,000, the housing crisis, record deficits and debt, a never ending war with close to 4000 American casualties, over 41 million Americans with no health care, sky high drug and insurance costs, the ever weakening dollar and No child Left Behind failing miserably...yea, we need 4 more years of this wonderful republican leadership!

LBenedict

"we need 4 more years of this wonderful republican leadership!" Ok, so does that mean that Congress has nothing to do with anything? That is why we have Congress; you know, checks and balances, giving the people a voice...oh wait, the Dems control Congress so all must be well with the world. When the Dems last had the White House and Congress (1/20/93), in less than 2 years the people saw how catastrophic it was, so much so that 53 Dems were voted out, to include the Speaker of the House (not done since reconstruction), and 3 more switched parties. To put it in context, 3 months after Nixon resigned, 48 Republicans were voted out. Perhaps we need to go back to 1993??? BTW, oil is $100/barrel because of high demand, namely from China and India. But now that the Dems control legislation in Congress, I expect it to drop below $30...since, as many of you have said, it is Bush's fault. Well, Congress can stop him. I expect troops to return from Iraq this month, 70 degrees with a slight breeze and 2 cars in every garage. If the Democratic party is the answer, it must have been a dumb question.

dani

gagairl,,you are way out in left field. How do you dream this stuff up? You know and we all know that 41 million people in this country are not without health care. You might have millions with no private health insurance but you have millions on SSI and no one is turned away at the clinics and emergency rooms. That, dear friend, is health care. The Dim's have to get your votes by promises so they put this out for you to fall for.
The unemployment rate just went to 5% which is the highest its been in 4 years. It was very, very low for years. We have suffered casualties since 2002, true. But I don't think even you would want to see what happened if we could play 'what if'.
The 'no child left behind' was not a Republican plan, but Pres. bush did sign it into law. Possibly a mistake. Again, 'what if".
I don't know why I am taking so much time typing this. Same song, same verse, hard-heads don't want to know the truth.

_kpc_

OK willistontownsc....if you can't name ALL of the rights that have been taken away try naming just one. One right, that YOU have had to give up.

gagirl40

Dani...I notice you didn't comment on the other things..what, you concede those points? The deficit, the debt, the weak dollar, high health care cost and drug prices. And LBenedict..please the Dems have had a slim majority in Congress for less than one year and they have been stopped at every turn by Republican filibusters or presidential vetoes. Don't blame the Dems for this mess we're in!

_kpc_

Why is it everyone talks about how bad the economy is, yet after thay complain about it, when asked "but how are YOU doing?" they reply is almost always, "well I'M doing ok, but the economy is bad."

gagirl40

KPC, I'm not doing ok. And many of my family and friends aren't doing ok either. We are surviving, but times have been harder the last few years than they ever have been, for all of us. We don't complain because we realize there are a lot of people a whole lot worse off than we are. But we realize we aren't that far away either. One medical emergency or any other unforeseen event and we're in serious trouble! The "corporate" economy is great! Big oil and energy, drug companies, insurance companies, etc, is doing great, but the "Real" economy, the one that effects the real people in this country, is sucking big time!
