Concerts support Fair Trade goods, Habitat for Humanity

Music for a cause is the purpose of the Common Grounds Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Eryn Eubanks and the Family Fold will be featured at the coffeehouse at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12.

"We provide a venue for local and regional artists and provide a family-friendly atmosphere in a nonreligious-oriented coffeehouse," said Gayla Keessee, the coffeehouse coordinator. "We also provide Fair Trade coffee."

Fair Trade products are produced by farmers in Third World countries. Goods include coffee, chocolate, herbs, rice, fruit and sugar.

"It's an alternative to larger corporations," she said. "It allows sustainable markets in the Third World."

This is the coffeehouse's second season of concerts.

The first season began in December 2006. This year's series began in October and will run through June. There are more entertainers scheduled.

Eryn Eubanks and the Family Fold drew the largest crowd during the first coffeehouse season, and Ms. Keesee expects similar results this year.

Concerts feature acoustic, jazz and folk music.

One special event will be in April. An open-mike night to benefit Habitat for Humanity will be April 12.

"We are part of an interfaith project to raise money for Habitat," she said.

Tickets for the Eryn Eubanks and the Family Fold concert are $12 for adults and $8 for students.

Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students.
