MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mr. Thomas J. Travers, 90, entered into rest on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Doctor's Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Platt's Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel, with The Reverend Michael Roverse officiating. Military Honors, by the U.S. Navy, will follow. No graveside services are scheduled. Mr. Travers was a native of Brooklyn, New York. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II aboard the USS Cowpens "The Mighty Moo". He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 25 years stationed at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, N.Y. and was called to Active Duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He also served for 25 years as a New York City Fireman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic Sylvester and Sarah Telford Travers; and his son, Dennis Travers. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Grace W. Travers of Martinez; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Robbie Travers of Hixson, Tenn.; daughter, Judith Travers of Fort Salonga, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Tommy Travers, Erin Travers, Kate Travers, and Alexa Gallo. A vigil for the deceased will be held at 6:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, January 2, 2008 in the Platt's Belair Road Chapel.
