COLUMBIA, S.C. - Graveside service for Doris Burdette Dixson, 86, will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Woodridge Memorial Park. Honorary Pallbearers will be Pinckney McElveen, Sam Thomas, Alan Smith, Milam Smith, Mike McElveen, Rick Cox, Tim Newell, and Travis Newell. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201, the American Heart Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, 520 Gervais Street, Suite 300, Columbia, S.C. 29201, or the Animal Protection League, P.O. Box 5354, Columbia, S.C. 29250. Mrs. Dixson, wife of the late Ross Milam Dixson, died Monday, December 31, 2007. Born in Atlanta, Ga., she was the youngest of the eight children of the late James Thomas and Maggie May Smith Burdette. In retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively across the United States. Mrs. Dixson was a longtime member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Dixson McElveen and Pinckney Tarrant McElveen of Columbia, Suzanne Dixson Thomas and Sam W. Thomas of Augusta, Ga., and Barbara Dixson and Alan C. Smith of Stevens Point, Wis.; brother-in-law, Bruce Edson Dixson of Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren, Marie Cox, Mike McElveen, Pam Newell, Laura Dixson-Kruijf, and Milam C.D. Smith; great-grandchildren, Michaela McElveen, Travis Newell, Kaitlin Cox, and Brynne Dixson-Kruijf; and loving dog, Kate Dixson.
