Candidate sits on tower

ATLANTA --- A former TV reporter-turned-political candidate says he plans to remain on a small scaffold near the top of a tall tower in hopes of focusing attention on his long-shot bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

Dale Cardwell, a former television reporter running for U.S. Senate, is raised on a platform near the top of the Corey Tower, an Atlanta structure that is more than 300 feet high.

Shortly before noon Tuesday, Dale Cardwell was hoisted more than 300 feet up the Corey Tower near downtown Atlanta.

He said he expects to remain there "for days," sleeping in an insulated sleeping bag and eating military pre-packaged meals. A webcam is tracking his limited movements. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s.

Mr. Cardwell says he thinks the publicity stunt won't hurt his credibility but will make people curious about his message: that politicians should pay more attention to the concerns of working people and less to those of wealthy corporate interests.

Mr. Cardwell faces DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Vernon Jones in the Democratic primary.

Well, speaking only for

Well, speaking only for myself, of course, I think that a guy camping out on top of a tower all by himself will not only lend tremendous credibility to his campaign, but will most definitely make all politicians "pay more attention to the concerns of working people and less to those of wealthy corporate interests." I am sure he will win in a landslide for this useful and productive venture. And I'm also certain that the Presidential candidates will follow suit, since this is the best campaign strategy ever.
