AN ADVOCATE OF DEMOCRACY, former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday during a political rally. She was campaigning for parliamentary elections and had returned in October after eight years in exile. She had been the first woman to be elected prime minister in Pakistan.
