MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mr. Thomas J. Travers, 90, entered into rest on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Doctor's Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2008, at 11:00 am, in the Platt's Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel, with The Reverend Michael Roverse officiating. Military Honors, by the US Navy, will follow. No graveside services are scheduled. Mr. Travers was a native of Brooklyn, New York. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in World War II, aboard the USS Cowpens "The Mighty Moo". He served in the US Naval Reserve, for 25 years, stationed at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY and was called to Active Duty, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, in 1962. He also served for 25 years as a New York City Fireman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic Sylvester and Sarah Telford Travers and his son, Dennis Travers. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Grace W. Travers, of Martinez, son and daughter in law, Tom and Robbie Travers, of Hixson, TN, daughter, Judith Travers, of Fort Salonga, NY and grandchildren, Tommy Travers, Erin Travers, Kate Travers and Alexa Gallo. A vigil for the deceased will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, in the Platt's Belair Road Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
