SIMONS, Ga. - Robert Madison Jopling, 87, of St. Simons Island, died December 29, 2007, at magnolia Manor of St. Simons. A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, B.J. Jopling of St. Simons Island, a son, Mark Jopling of Fond Du Lac, WI., a step-daughter, Patricia L. Parton of Lincolnton, GA,, 5 grandchildren, Heidi Jopling, Joshua Jopling, Jennifer Jopling, Scott Axton, Michael Axton, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preced in death by his wife of 51 years, Christine Redd Jopling. Born in Augusta, May 2, 1920, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, he retired in 1980 from Signal Corporation of Fort Gordon after 32 years of service. He lived all of his life in Augusta, having moved to St. Simons Island in December 2004. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Cowboys and Roses Renegade Ranch, horsback riding for handicapped kids, 145 Myers Hill Road, Brunswick, GA 31523.
