McCormick man is facing felony charges

ANDERSON --- The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a McCormick man has been charged with three counts of felony driving under the influence in the deaths of a woman, her husband and sister in a crash near Anderson.

Lance Cpl. Kathy Hiles said 61-year-old Robert Blair was driving on Abbeville Highway about 6:30 a.m. Monday when his Ford F-250 pickup crossed the double yellow line. Lance Cpl. Hiles said Mr. Blair crashed head-on with a Toyota Scion.

She said Mr. Blair was taken to a hospital for minor injuries. She said he had complained of chest pains and would undergo more tests.

Longs toddler drowns on Florida vacation

A South Carolina toddler drowned in a swimming pool the day after Christmas near Orlando, Fla., according to the Osceola County Sheriff's Department.

Emmanu'el Brown, 3, of Longs, was found Dec. 26 in a swimming pool at a vacation home in northwest Osceola County, according to sheriff's office spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain.

Osceola County sheriff's deputies performed CPR. He died at Florida Hospital Celebration Health, Ms. Lizasuain said.

Several of the child's family members and relatives were staying at the home, Ms. Lizasuain said.

Bullet hits passenger of SUV on interstate

NORTH CHARLESTON --- A bullet grazed a man's head as he and two others drove home Monday morning, North Charleston police said. The 24-year-old man was transported to Medical University Hospital.

According to The Post & Courier newspaper, the victim was a passenger in an SUV heading east on Interstate 26. About 3:30 a.m., a vehicle pulled up behind the SUV and fired several shots.

The SUV had a bullet hole in the right rear window, police said. The bullet traveled through the rear seat, the front passenger seat and into the back of the victim's head.

Police seeking 2 in Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA --- Columbia police are looking for two men they say shot and killed a Richland County man over the weekend.

Coroner Gary Watts says that 22-year-old Calvin Washington died Saturday at a hospital from blood loss resulting from a gunshot wound.

Police say they are looking for 23-year-old Melcelus Toland and 26-year-old Andrew Brown. They have been charged with murder, kidnapping and first degree burglary.

Police say Mr. Toland and Mr. Brown went into an apartment belonging to Mr. Toland's former girlfriend and shot Mr. Washington around 4 a.m. Saturday.
