P'Laura Padgett is a senior at Ridge Spring-Monetta High School.

In October, Padgett's volleyball team finished the season with a 14-6 record and placed second in Region 4A.

Padgett, who has played volleyball for six years, said the strongest part of her game is her serve.

"I was the team leader in serves," she said.

Padgett, who has been named to the all-state volleyball team three straight years, said the highlight of her career was when Ridge Spring-Monetta won the region title in 2005.

Volleyball is Padgett's favorite sport.

"Volleyball is more hands-on," she said. "You are playing with the help of your other teammates."

In basketball, the Lady Trojans are winless in six games thus far on the season. A center, Padgett scored nine points in a 46-39 loss to Gilbert on Nov. 30, and she scored 10 in a 55-36 loss to Pelion on Dec. 7.

Padgett has played basketball for five years. Sometimes, she said, the sport is a little more aggressive than she likes.

"Basketball is more of a contact sport," she said. "I'm just a volleyball person."

After basketball season, Padgett will probably play softball, having played the sport for the first time last year.

"I just wanted to experience something new," said Padgett who played left field.

When not involved in sports, Padgett finds time for other school activities and clubs.

She's on the yearbook staff and is a member of the Beta Club and FFA.

Padgett said she is looking at several colleges, including Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C., North Greenville University, Tigerville, S.C., and Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina.

She hopes to play volleyball in college and study physical therapy.
