ATLANTA --- A fitness trainer with a celebrity clientele was in a coma Thursday night after he was severely beaten in a downtown Atlanta parking lot, police said.

Darius Miller, 41, was attacked after trying to stop a group of men "videotaping individuals walking to and away from the parking lot" outside a nearby night club about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, according to a police report.

Atlanta police spokesman James Polite said the men turned on Mr. Miller when he attempted to stop them.

"He was just outnumbered and overpowered," said Mr. Polite, who added that police have not made any arrests.

Mr. Miller is a career fitness trainer whose clients include performer Usher, Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Takeo Spikes, former New York Giants player Carlos Emmons and Cosby Show star Keisha Knight Pulliam, according to Ken Miller, Darius Miller's cousin.

He was taken to nearby Emory Crawford Long Hospital, where he remained in the intensive care unit late Thursday.

"We're trying to wait it out and keep saying our prayers," said Ken Miller.
