SUMMERVILLE, S.C. - Mrs. Susan Elizabeth "Betty" Lee, 83, wife of the late Col. Wilton A. Lee, formerly of North Augusta, entered into rest Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Summerville, S.C. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Fairview Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert F. Fuller, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, North Augusta, S.C. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the home of Kathleen L. Johnston, 5045 Fieldcrest Drive, North Augusta, S.C. Mrs. Lee was the daughter of the late William and Lillian Melvin. She was born in Columbia, S.C. and lived most of her life in North Augusta. Mrs. Lee received her Bachelors Degrees in English and Psychology from the University of South Carolina, Graduate studies in English at the University of York in England, and Certificates of study in the art of Ichibana. She traveled Europe extensively and lived briefly in Japan and Okinawa where she taught English. Mrs. Lee taught school for twenty years in the North Augusta School System. During her retirement, she published works of poetry and was a reading editor for the author Effie Wilder. Mrs. Lee was an artist, who worked with oils and watercolors, receiving awards in statewide competitions in Florida. Mrs. Lee was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church, Terrace Garden Club of North Augusta, Martintown Road Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Richard the Third Society, United Kingdom Branch. Survivors include four daughters, Susan L. Houck of Charleston, S.C., Caroline L. Auzier of Nimes, France, Helen L. Liptak of Temecula, Calif., and Kathleen L. Johnston of North Augusta; one son, Wilton Anthony Lee, II of Orange Park, Fla.; one sister, Lillian Melvin Dickerman of Pasadena, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Thomas Woods Brown, Magali Helene Elizabeth Auzier, Pascal Julien Auzier, Lauren Lee Traxler, Wilton Anthony Lee, III, Thomas Michael Lee, Andrew Mark Liptak, Rachel Lee Liptak, Charles Wilton Sowell, Richard Joseph Sowell, and Patrick Joseph Kenneth Johnston; one great-grandchild, Ella Dawson Traxler.
