Seth J. Rouzan, 22, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, armed robbery, burglary and a weapon violation in the Dec. 12, 2006, shooting death of Jeffrey Labord.
The body of the 39-year-old victim was found about 5 a.m. on Doublegate Court, which is a deadend street off Walden Drive behind Pendleton King Park.
Mr. Labord had been shot several times, according to earlier reports in The Augusta Chronicle .
Sheriff's officers haven't yet revealed a possible motive or how Mr. Labord and his killer crossed paths.
Detectives did report that Mr. Labord's home was burglarized the night of his death.
Mr. Labord lived on Artimus Street. His stolen vehicle was found about six miles away on McElmurray Drive.
According to court records, Mr. Rouzan lived on McElmurray Drive before his arrest.
Mr. Labord worked for the city's Traffic Engineering Department for 19 years.
According to his obituary, he also volunteered at the Augusta Youth Center after graduating from Laney High School in 1985.
Testimony begins at 9 a.m. this morning in Richmond County Superior Court.
