Lowell Greenbaum still doesn't get it

  • Follow Letters

Lowell Greenbaum at this very moment no doubt sits alone in yet another darkened corner, his paranoia running amok at President Bush's latest attempt to ruin lives. Pity him, for his latest invective ("Billing injured troops is shameful," Dec. 6) demonstrates again the common thread of ignorance, prejudice and application of flawed philosophical reasoning we have come to expect in his all-too-frequent rants.

Where will his fractured thoughts lead when Bush rides off into the sunset in Crawford, Texas? Sorry, but if 31 years of military service taught me nothing else, I learned all too well that the military compensation system is like a loaded vehicle hurtling down the interstate. In the main, it does its job beautifully, but the vehicle is totally oblivious to the rocks it kicks up now and again. I once didn't get paid for two months because a keypunch error changed my middle initial.

"Lowell Reasoning" (i.e., the system did a dumb thing; Jimmy Carter is president; I did not vote for Jimmy; therefore, Jimmy is out to get me) would have me assume Jimmy knew that I did not vote for him and sought retribution. Frankly, I would rather think Jimmy had bigger peanuts to boil.

Truth is, a system designed to move mountains will occasionally flatten molehills. And, while the results can be devastating to the individual, once made aware, generally the larger system of checks and balances eventually corrects the problem, without assistance from an ill-equipped letter-writer/philosopher.

Tommy Smith, North Augusta, S.C.

(The writer is a retired U.S. Air Force chief master sergeant.)

What is this letter saying?

What is this letter saying? Please help. Perhaps right-wing code. Sounds like some past trauma with Jimmy Carter, and somehow Greenbaum's involved.

Well written Mr Smith and

Well written Mr Smith and thank you for your service. What the two lefties that posted before me don't understand is that bureaucracies move slow, whether the driver is conservative, liberal, or in between and Greenbaum's complaining in his Dec. 6 letter was just headline fodder. Which, by the way, is Greenbaum's job.

I can't wait until November

I can't wait until November when all of you republicans wake up to the realization that a Democratic era has just been voted into office. I'm predicting the Democrats - regardless of who the candidate may be - will win by at least 53%, which is a landslide these days. I'm also predicting the Congress will take another dramatic shift toward Democratic majority, and many Republicans will be swept out of office. A "clean sweep" is coming - a major shift in American politics.

We are sick of Bush and this Republican administration and Congress. They have come very near to bankrupting this country, and have turned friends overseas into enemies. Relegate them all to the dustbin of history, and the sooner the better.

Amen, Former Augustan. I

Amen, Former Augustan. I look forward to competence and credibility in the White House. Gramatically coherent press conferences will be another bonus. Like most of us, Dr. Greenbaum is sick of being sick of these arrogant, greedy and self-righteous rogues.

Forget about getting at the

Forget about getting at the truth, just reduce every issue to right vs left or left vs right ...and the band plays on. Neither the republicans or the democrats are for you silly [filtered word] people (they only care about fattening their pockets at the taxpayers' expense -- if you are not a lobbyist who can throw some money their way, they don't give a rats "A" about you. Maybe one day you'll wake up and stop letting them use you.

Have any of you thought that if what you're wishing for comes true this country will very closely resemble the cold war Russia?
You may want to listen a little closer!

My God folks the Dems ruled

My God folks the Dems ruled for decades. Even so arrogant and shady as to have virtually no record of the goings on in Congress they had such clout and undisturbed reign. When the Reps finally took over they were aghast at the trend. Unfortunately the Reps turned out to be as bad as the Dems in pork and useless legislation. The MSNBC report is hilarious! A similar non sequitur would be the poor are prone to divorce, abortions, and poorly educated. These are measures of general intelligence (g) and almost by definition the masses of poor supporting the Dems pulls their average intellligence way down. The successful rich neocons would display a higher average intelligence or g value. Given the Reps have been dominated by fundamentalist Christians they should also have a monopoly on morality too-hee, hee, hee. Idiotic ain't it!

OK... so please explain how

OK... so please explain how Mr. Greenbaum's letter was off-base.. please enlighten us Mr. Smith. I'm not saying Mr. Greenbaum's position is correct, but all you did in your entire letter was hurl ad-hominems. Once again, The Augusta Chronicle shows it has absolutely no standards for publishing Letters to the Editor.

Gumby, he is another vet like

Gumby, he is another vet like me, who are tired of the almost weekly diatribes against GW Bush, and certainly willing to call his hand in a lbare faced lie like his letter concerning Bush collecting bonuses from the wounded. The error was a bad one, but as usual, corrected as soon as found out. Greenbum is the typical DIMocRAT that will try any smear tactic possible against President Bush and as usual, get the crap he spews into the fan all over himself.

Politicians ,,, be they Repub

Politicians ,,, be they Repub or Demoncats (yes Demoncats) do not want harmony even if it could be achieved. They stay elected and in power preaching doom and gloom that can only be resolved by them riding in on the white horse. Repubs do not have all the answers but neither do the Demoncats. Both sides have something to offer but no one wants to admit that another party MAY have some good ideas.
Listen up Repubs and Demoncats and those seeking office.... Most people want a safe neigborhood, not by forcibly taking away their guns. They want the system to work as planned and funded and INCARCERATE those responsible for the crimes,,, for as long as it takes. Most people do not want to see kids starve and suffer thru medical problems, BUT, people are tired of seeing someone have 6 kids who cannot afford to support 1 and then expect and demand the rest of us to support and pay for every social program.........Most people have no issue with foreigners coming in to work and live, IF THEY DO IT LEGALLY. We do not want to see an illegal alien , be they mexican, irish, japanese, arab, or whatever come into this country and get all services we have to pay for w/our taxes.
