THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. LaRose Adkins, 83, widow of Mr. Albert D. Adkins Jr., died Saturday, December 1, 2007 in the Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville S.C. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 7 in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with the Revs. Tom Kerr and Liza Marler officiating. Mrs. Adkins was a native of Johnson County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a 1945 graduate of the University of Georgia, she was a member of the Sigma Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority, a member of the Camellia Garden Club, and several bridge groups. She was a member of Thomson First United Methodist Church, where she was a former member of the Osme Sunday School Class. She taught school at Dearing Elementary and Thomson High School for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Albert D. Adkins. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Ellen Sanford, West Union S.C.; 2 grand-daughters, Suzanne Phillips, Walhalla S.C., Meridith Sanford, Mooresville N.C.; a great- grandson, Cooper Phillips, Walhalla S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be nephews. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, December 7 at the Curtis Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sigma Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship Fund, in care of Pat Carr, 522 Stagecoach Rd., Thomson, Ga. 30824 or The Thomson First United Methodist Church.
