Mom struggles with expenses

For a 37-year-old Hephzibah woman, her children are her motivation, and she wants to provide a better life for them.

However, with her income, the family struggles to make ends meet. She has an associates degree in accounting and has been trying to obtain work in her field, but she hasn't been able to because she doesn't have experience, she said.

"I'm hoping that the Empty Stocking Fund will bless me with the means to make Christmas special," she said. "With no financial help from their father, they already know what it's like to go without the things you want. Please help me make their Christmas special."

The Augusta Chronicle 's Empty Stocking Fund helps families like this one each year. Last year, the charity raised a record-breaking $122,000, which went to more than 1,250 families.

The deadline to submit an application for help is Friday.

Contributions can be mailed to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928, or delivered to the security station in the lobby of the News Building at 725 Broad St.

Donations also can be made online at www.augustachronicle.com/emptystocking. The Empty Stocking Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization, and donations are tax deductible.
