- Beverly Barshafsky Peltier , the director of institutional advancement for Augusta Technical College, has received the Outstanding Newcomer Award from the Georgia Educational Advancement Council at its fall conference in Brasstown Valley, for achievements in college development, fundraising and quality performance.

Mr. Cates, a certified public accountant and partner-in-charge of Cherry, Bekaert & Holland's Augusta-Aiken regional practice, has more than 25 years of experience with medical/professional practice mergers and acquisitions.

- Dr. Bruce LeClair has been named president of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians. The appointment was made at the academy's 59th annual Scientific Assembly. Dr. LeClair, an associate professor in the Medical College of Georgia's Department of Family Medicine, served as the academy's vice president last year.
