AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Alvin R. Nickelson, 74, entered into rest on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road Chapel with Dr. Bobby E. Coleman officiating . Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Military honors will accorded by the Ceremonial Detachment of Fort Gordon. Serving in the U.S. Army, he received a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and the Korean War Service medal awarded on the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War. Mr. Nickelson also served in the Georgia National Guard for 25 years. He was a member of American Legion 649 and the Twin City Bass Club. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Wylene Nickelson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Luci Nickelson, Sr., Martinez and Alex and Sherry Nickelson, Hephzibah; two grandsons, William Richard Nickelson, Sylvania, Ga. and Mark Nickelson, Jr. (Dannille) Graniteville, S.C.; three granddaughters, Missy Nickelson, Augusta, Angel Nickelson Wood (Jeffrey), N. Augusta, S.C., and Joy Nickelson Simpson (Patrick) Augusta; six grandchildren, Tylor, Brandon, Jacob, Ashley, Morgan, and Madison; sister, Becky Taylor, Eatonton, Ga.
