Parel stroke back in second stage event
Augusta's Scott Parel is one shot back in second place in a second-stage site of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament.
Parel, who was tied for the lead after the first round, shot 2-under-par 70 on Thursday and is at 133 in Dade City, Fla. Aiken's Brian Quackenbush withdrew after shooting an opening-round 71.
In Panama City Beach, Fla., Swainsboro's Will Claxton shot 73 and is tied for 15th at 143. Stephen Poole, of Aiken, shot 81 and is tied for 48th at 148, while David Robinson, of Sandersville, shot 77 and is tied for 61st at 152.
In Kingwood, Texas, Augusta's Emmett Turner shot 68 and is tied for 32nd at 145. Former Augusta State golfer Major Manning shot 73 and is tied for 39th at 146. Aiken native Matt Hendrix shot 75 and is tied for 74th at 152, while Augusta's Scott Brown shot 77 and is tied for 76th at 153.
Cable system to air Falcons-Colts game
Atlantic Broadband, which serves 21,000 customers in Aiken, Barnwell, Allendale and Bamberg counties, will broadcast the Atlanta Falcons home game against the Indianapolis Colts on Thanksgiving night on the NFL Network.
The game is the first of eight games to air on the network.
Augusta State hosts state championship
The Georgia Cyclocross State Championship will be held Sunday at the Augusta State athletic complex beginning at 10 a.m.
Approximately 120 competitors are expected to take part in the event, which is the fifth of seven races in the series.
Participants compete in timed events on circuits that are usually more than a mile in length. Terrain might include pavement, grass and dirt roads.
This marks the third year that Augusta has played host to a cyclocross race, but the first time the state championship will be held here.
Several local residents, including Nate Zukas and Elizabeth Lee , are expected to compete.
Family Y set to hold annual fun run/walk
The Family Y of Augusta will hold its annual Gasping Gobbler 5K Family Fun Run/Walk on Saturday.
The race will begin and end in the parking lot of the Wilson Family Y at 3570 Wheeler Rd.
Registration/check-in is from 6:45 to 8 :45 a.m. The team relay is scheduled for 8 a.m., followed by the 5K race at 9 and the kids 1/4-mile run at 9:45.

Wendland Memorial to be held in Aiken
The Jan E. Wendland Memorial bicycle polo tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at Powderhouse Polo Field in Aiken.
Games are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. each day.
Teams scheduled to compete in the event are Aiken, Aiken Prep, Asheville, N.C., Baltimore and Unionville, Pa.
