Marching bands to bring their best to invitational

High school and college marching bands will have the opportunity to display their talents Saturday during the Second Annual Garden City Band Invitational.

"It's a time to showcase bands across the CSRA, Georgia and South Carolina. It's a chance for everybody to see these groups in one place," said Arthur Wright, director of the Academy of Richmond County High School marching band.

Bands from several schools, including Richmond Academy, Cross Creek High School, Butler High School, Glenn Hills High School, T.W. Josey High School and Paine College will perform.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Richmond Academy band program.

"It's a fundraiser for the different things the band has to pay for throughout the year. It can be expensive, with uniforms, competitions and travel expenses," said James Dean, a committee member for the event.

This year's event will offer some impressive performances, Mr. Wright said.

"It's going to be bigger and better than last year. We want everyone to come out and support us and these bands," he said.

Mr. Wright said that he hopes to eventually turn the event into a competition.
