THOMSON, Ga. - On November 5, 2007, Mr. Joseph D. Greene entered into rest at Trinity Hospital of Augusta. He was the beloved husband of Barney L. Greene of Thomson and the devoted father of Dr. Cathy J. (Tyrone) Hatcher of Elmsford, NY, and J. David (Mistey) Greene, Jr. of Thomson, GA and the proud grandfather of 3 grandchildren. Mr. Greene was born in rural Emanuel County, but was a resident of Thomson, GA for over 45 years. He was a member and deacon of the Springfield Baptist Church. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Pilgrim Health and Life Insurance Company of Augusta as an Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer. He embarked upon a second career as the Cree-Walker Professor of Business in the School of Business Administration at Augusta State University for 15 years until his retirement. The family will receive friends at the Springfield Baptist Church in Thomson on Thursday, November 8th from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will also be held at the church on Friday, November 9th at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the West View Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in honor of Mr. Greene at the Augusta State University Performing Arts Theater on Monday, November 12th at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family has requested that donations in memory of Mr. Joseph Greene be made to the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Boulevard, Augusta, Georgia 30909.
