EVANS, Ga. - Eldred O. Lybrand, 84, of Evans, GA, departed this life at Trinity Hospice on October 24, 2007, and went to be with his Lord and Saviour. Mr. Lybrand, who because of his loving nature greeted everyone with a grin, was also known by his boyhood nickname of "Possum" by some old friends and family members. He was the son of Murphy Lee and Ora Lee Fox Lybrand of Wagener, South Carolina and had one brother, Frederick Lybrand, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Wagener High School and attended Clemson College until being called to serve in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He served with honor in the South Pacific for three years. After completing his military service, he returned to his home in Wagener, where he was the co-owner of Tire and Oil Company until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the SC Oil Jobbers Association. Soon after retirement, an interest in antiques led Mr. Lybrand and his wife, Mildred Lybrand, to establish an antiques business, "Treasures and Trivia." They have exhibited in numerous prominent antiques shows across the Southeast for the past 33 years. In 1982, Mr. Lybrand and his wife opened an antiques shop on South Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach, SC, which they operated until 1986. Through the antiques business, he gained an interest in all aspects of antique watches, and he became an excellent watch repairman, and returned to school to become a registered Jeweler. For more than thirty years, Mr. Lybrand had enjoyed traveling on cruise ships, along with his wife Mildred, and often with friends. They cruised to most of the islands of the Caribbean, as well as many other popular destinations. He was also interested in cruising the Internet, and enjoyed music, television, old movies, and automobiles of all types, as well as technology in general. Mr. Lybrand was a strong but gentle man of quiet demeanor, with a marvelous sense of humor, who loved to laugh, tease and have fun. He lived a full and happy life with his wife and family. He was deeply loved and will leave us with an abundance of wonderful memories. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mildred Mims Lybrand of Evans, GA; four daughters: Judy L. Swenson of Raleigh, NC, Linda L. Lybrand of Raleigh, NC, Nancy L. Pfeifer and her husband, Guy Pfeifer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Carol E. Lybrand of Tucker, GA; as well as five grandsons, one granddaughter, and three great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held today (Saturday), October 27, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
