"We have cars that I haven't seen before. We always have cars that I've never seen before," said Barbara Gunter, the club's president.

About 80 cars of various makes and models lined Laurens Street on Oct. 7 for the latest cruise-in.

It was Dan Bucklin's first opportunity to show off his newest acquisition.

A recent Aiken transplant, Mr. Bucklin bought his 1934 Ford roadster from a car enthusiast in Nashville, Tenn., about four months ago. It had been in storage for a few years, but making it road-worthy again required only minimal work.

"I've always been a hot rodder," he said. "Every couple of years, I look for my next project."

The car drew a lot of attention.

"I like the nostalgic look," said Ron Cottick, of North Augusta. "It's a hot rod."

Mr. Cottick attends car shows regularly.

"I try to get to as many as I can," he said.

On this particular day, he was there just to look. He usually goes to shows with something that other people are interested in viewing.

"I have three of my own," he said. "I don't have them today."

Ms. Gunter and members of the car club have held the monthly cruise-ins since late 2002. In the past five years, the location has changed three times. The event has been in downtown Aiken for almost two years.

Club members use the event to help raise money for charity. A 50-50 raffle helps the Cumbee Center for Abused Persons. Last year, the raffle raised $6,000.

The next cruise-in will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4.
