- The board of directors of The Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area announced that 16 volunteer panels, consisting of more than 125 community leaders, are preparing for the foundation's 2007 Unrestricted Fund grants. The panels will review the applications, conduct site visits and recommend to the Foundation's Grants Committee the organizations they feel are the most worthy to receive a grant this year.
Grant funds are provided through unrestricted contributions from Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament. From 1996 through this year, the foundation made 2,680 grants totaling $16,484,701.
- Greensboro, Ga.-based Hy-Lite Products presented $5,000 to Golden Harvest Food Bank in support of its BackPack Program. The manufacturer of acrylic block products used in residential and commercial construction, along with residents of Eatonton, provided 400 Putnam County Elementary School students a week with nutritious food to take home each weekend.
Although many of these children were on free or reduced school breakfast and lunch programs, this ensured that they had nutritious food for the weekends. Golden Harvest is seeking additional funding to continue this project throughout the school year. The annual cost of the program is $38,280. This program costs approximately $100 per student. To contribute, contact the food bank's Armen Boyajian at (800) 766-7690, ext. 212.
