GRANITEVILLE, S.C. - Completed life's journey on Sunday, September 23, 2007, Mr. James A. Hamilton, Sr., age 86, of Graniteville, S.C., widower of the late Dorothy Smith Hamilton and son of the late Ben Horton Hamilton and the late Lottie Bryan Hamilton. He is survived by a son, James A "Jimmy" Hamilton, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Pam Hamilton and a grandson, James A. "Alex" Hamilton, III, all of Aiken, S.C.; a brother, Hubert W. "Hoobie" Hamilton of North Augusta, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was born in Edgefield County but has lived most of his life in Aiken County. He was the Veterans Service Officer for Aiken County for many years. He was the State Adjutant of the American Legion having served one year as State Commander. He was a lifetime member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #77 in Graniteville and was recently presented a certificate for being an active member for over 60 years. He was a member of Ye Stivos of the American Legion. He received the Order of Palmetto. He was a member of the Palmetto Golf Club. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran having served his country during World War II. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville with Rev. Larry Watson officiating. The interment will follow in the Graniteville Cemetery. The Pallbearers will be nephews. The Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class at St. John United Methodist Church and members of the American Legion. The family will receive friends at the son's residence in Aiken, S.C. or Tuesday night, September 25th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
