STATS: 14, an eighth-grader at Columbia Middle School

WHAT: 2007 People to People Leadership Forum participant and writer

HIS STORY: On recommendations from his sixth-grade math teacher and seventh-grade science teacher, Christopher was selected to go to the People to People conference Sept. 10-15 in Washington, D.C. Neil got a chance to tour a city he's always wanted to visit and to see a monument that has special meaning in his life.

"I'm a fan of (World War II)," he said before he left. "My grandfather was a veteran and I look up to him so much, and not just because of World War II but because he's a survivor."

Neil considers himself a typical teen who is strong in his Christian faith and strives to be a witness to it.

While interested in politics and history, Neil's real passion is writing.

"I like to write," he said. "And, it seems odd, but I like to sit down and think about things. I can take some small detail and turn it into something big."
