Wingeier out front at Savannah Lakes

Chris Wingeier of Mount Vintage Plantation shot 80 to take the lead after the first day of play in the CSRA Women's Golf Association 54-hole tournament at Savannah Lakes.

Mary Helen McElreath of Gordon Lakes is in second with 81, and defending champion Lawrette McCann of Woodside Plantation is next at 82.

In the senior flight, defending champion Grace Therriault of Woodside Plantation leads with an 85.

The tournament continues today at Green Meadow Golf Club and concludes Thursday at The Reserve Club in Aiken. A total of 70 players are competing in the tournament.

In addition to the trophies for the champion, runner-up, senior champ and senior runner-up, there will be prizes awarded to the top three competitors in each flight.

The CSRA Women's Golf Association started in 1961. Fifteen golf clubs from South Carolina and Georgia, with over 430 members, make up the association.
