Jessica Campbell is the recreation and program coordinator for the Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.
1. What is Toddler Time?
Toddler Time is indoor play for toddlers. The gym space is used to run, chase and release energy. The program is for ages 5 and under (accompanied by an adult) and meets from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday in the (H. Odell) Weeks (Activity) Center gym. The cost is $2 per visit per child. Infants in strollers who are not yet walking can attend at no cost.
2. What types of games and activities do the children participate in?
Equipment and toys such as balls, scooters, mats, hula hoops, parachutes and more are provided to stimulate free play. Personal toys are welcome.
3. How is this program beneficial to children and parents?
It allows for kids to interact with others of the same age and gives parents a chance to socialize with one another.
4. How long has the department had this program?
This program began in May and will continue year-round as long as we have participants.
5. Why did the department implement this program?
The public addressed the need for a toddler program, and although we did not have any instructors to run a program for toddlers, we did have space in the facility to offer play time. It allows a safe environment and keeps the kids out of the extreme heat that we have been experiencing.
