Wilson's history

Help for veterans

Disabled American Veterans Chapter 44 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at North Augusta Community Center, 495 Brookside Ave. There will be information about programs at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.

The subject is roses

The Rose Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way, in the Adult Education Building, Room 105. The program will feature a panel of consultants from the Rose Society. Call (803) 502-0252.

The Fox Creek High School swim team will hold a car wash, yard sale and barbecue fundraiser at 8 a.m. Saturday at Toner Charge, at the corner of U.S. Highway 25 and Sweetwater Road in North Augusta. Call Lisa Broom at (803) 270-6117.

Bluegrass festival

The fourth Saturday Bluegrass Festival will take place from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Old School Park and Haynes Auditorium in Batesburg-Leesville, S.C. The event will include eight bands. The first four bands will perform from 2 to 5 p.m., and the next four from 7 to 10 p.m., with a supper break in between.

Fall yard sale

Aiken County Recreation Center will hold a fall yard sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 29. Spaces are available for $5. Make reservations to participate by Monday, Sept. 24. Call (803) 663-6142.

Coffee for seniors

A Senior Coffee Corner begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Aiken County Recreation Center. Senior citizens are urged to have fellowship with others in the area. This month's speaker will be Jennifer Grenade, of Atlanta Broadband. The program is free. Call (803) 663-6142.

Cancer awareness

Horses aplenty

An open horse show begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Hippodrome on U.S. Highway 1 in North Augusta. There will be amateur English and Western open horse shows and competitions in 40 classes.
