Carolina rants and raves

SHERIFF MIKE HUNT, you were doing good about the drug dealers in the Breezy Hill community because the drug dealers were getting richer and the poor are getting poorer

MY RANT IS for the people speeding on Breezy Hill Road. The kids are at the bus stop. Please watch the speed limit, and please, cops, patrol the area.

A THANK YOU to an employee of Wachovia, North Augusta office, named Star. You went above and beyond in helping my son, and just at closing time. I worked at that bank for a few years and the Aiken office and the Edgefield office for 33 years and I thought kindness like that in the old days was gone. You didn't know me or that I used to work there, but you helped someone in need when you could have sent him on his way. Also, thank your supervisor.

WHY IS THE AIKEN COUNTY school board allowing churches to hold services inside school gyms and auditoriums without any timeframe for eventually leaving? I understand if these churches are building new churches and need a temporary home, but this is not the case with TruNorth, which holds services at North Augusta High, and now another church is planning on doing the same thing at Midland Valley High. Neither church has any plans to leave. They are holding on to their money and do not plan to spend it on church buildings.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE separation of church and state? Take a look at the big billboard on the Aiken-Augusta highway that the church at Midland Valley has rented. What happens if people of another faith decide they want to rent these same schools? If the school board is seen as discriminating against one religion to another, it is setting the county up for a big lawsuit. I will be contacting the ACLU on this matter to see what its feelings on this matter are. For the record, I am a Christian but do not agree with what these churches are doing.

WANT TO REDUCE accidents and some traffic on Whiskey Road? Put turn signals in turn lanes near the Target shopping strip, the mall and in front of Wal-Mart.

I KNOW THAT The Augusta Chronicle does not have the nerve to print this rant, but I'm going to send it anyway. Several members of the North Augusta football team decided to play hooky from school two Fridays in a row when they had games those nights (Strom Thurmond and Midland Valley). The principal did not punish these young men, instead letting the coach handle the situation. Well, we know what happened - nothing. They all started both nights.

What happens to some kid who does not play sports but does the same thing? North Augusta has a reputation for being a bully school because the principal will not lead. If the stars of the football team had been made to sit out these games for punishment, maybe the administration would begin to gain some respect in the community.

I HAVE A RAVE for North Augusta Public Safety. It has really started cracking down on people speeding through North Augusta neighborhoods. Please know that, as a mother, I appreciate you slowing people down to protect our little ones.

I do respect the concerns

I do respect the concerns several people voiced regarding the use of schools for churches to hold services, but before you jump to conclusions please be aware these facilities are being rented, it is not free. Anyone of any religion can rent these spaces. This money goes to our schools, and if you haven't been in them lately, are in shambles. The staff and congregation are an assett to these schools who are working on a shoestring budget. They change light bulbs(that haven't been replaced in years), cut grass and even clean bathrooms. Although all the glory goes to God. Please if you have any doubts come visit one of these churches, all people are welcome. A church is not a bulding, but is made up of a body of believers, which is the church. The services are held in these buildings only once a week, the other 6 days the church is on mission and serving the community. The mission of these churches is not to save money or cause controversy but the same as the mission of all christians, to win souls for Christ.

i think that whoever wrote that about the churches in schools is afraid that their child might be influenced by them or that bc they can't tell them to get out whne they want to it's not fair.

Regarding Heights Church

Regarding Heights Church currently renting space in Midland Valley High School... this is not an indefinate stay. Furthermore, the thought that the church is "holding on to their money" is even more ludicrous. Heights Church does more and spends more money on missions in the community than does most any other church in the CSRA.
-Please don't confuse this body of believers in Christ Jesus with your average "church" aka- social club. This is an active body, working in the community to help fill empty stomachs & gas tanks in an attempt to show Christ Jesus in the purest form. In service to others.
-With the way that the Holy Spirit is moving in Heights Church, your assumption that Heights will forever remain at MVHS is an attempt to place a severe restriction on God.
-The billboard on Aiken Augusta Hwy is rented and paid for, just like the space at MVHS. So what exactly is the issue?
-Finally, I'm just a bit confused about the "contacting the ACLU, by the way I'm a Christian" comment. If you are a Christian then you should want to see the lost saved. Not to mention, a lawsuit from one Christian towards another is unbiblical as stated in 1 Cor. 6:1-11
"Love your neighbor..."
